Do it for Charity!!!

This is a major event of Melbourne and a vital part of this event is to raise money for two extremely important charities Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) and the James Macready-Bryan Foundation (JMB)

[frame_center]https://www.maxnrgpt.com.au/images/cerebal_palsy_education_centre.jpg[/frame_center]

CEREBRAL PALSY EDUCATION CENTRE (CPEC)

Cerebral Palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood and most results in damage (brain injury) to the developing brain before, during or very early in life. CPEC provides early intervention education programs and teach children how to walk and communication when they would otherwise have been unable to.

Run Melbourne, presented by The Age

[fb-like]
Take part in this year Run Melbourne, one of Melbourne’s major walk, fun run charity event in Melbourne. Come and join in the event this year at Federation Square on Sunday 15th July 2012.

Run Melbourne, presented by The Age

It’s on again in 2012!

On Sunday, 15 July 2012, Run Melbourne, presented by The Age will be held once again, offering participants a half-marathon, an Australian Institute of Fitness 10km run and a 5km run or walk, starting and finishing at Federation Square. From its inception in 1994 as Run to the G, this event has become synonymous with Melbourne.

When the event first started in 1994 it was a major running and walking event for Melbourne and Victoria that incorporated many of the cities finest landmarks and giving participants a chance to make their weekend run an occasion to remember by finishing with a lap of the iconic MCG.

Much has changed since those early days with the event no longer finishing with a lap of the MCG, nor does it start in Yarra Park, and more distances and events have been added (a 5km walk/run, 10km run and a half-marathon (21.1km)).

*UPDATE – Early bird entries close Friday 15 June! Enter HERE NOW!

The event now has a new home at Federation Square and the date of the event has gradually moved from being held in May or mid June to now mid July.

Although the course has changed both distances and routes throughout the years, the inner city course remains Melbourne’s most scenic and takes in such landmarks as Flinders St. Station, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Federation Square, Princes Bridge, the Sandridge rail bridge, the Yarra River and the picturesque parkland at Birrarung Marr.

The Age Run Melbourne is the community fitness event for everyone. With the right training, anyone, at any age and any fitness level can participate. It’s also an opportunity to raise money for the charity you care about most. Last years 2011 event had 20,447 participants and raised $1,279,395 for a number of fantastic charities.

The Mother’s Day Classic is one of Australia’s largest charity events and raises money for breast cancer research. More than 120,000 people took part in 2011 and raised $3 million. The 2012 Mother’s Day Classic takes place on Sunday 13 May, 2012.

The Mother’s Day Classic is an opportunity to do something active and fun on Mother’s day, while remembering those who have been affected by or who are living with breast cancer and raising money for breast cancer research.

*UPDATE (6th June 2012) FINAL TOTAL

The Melbourne event continues to break records and exceed all our expectations with 44,000 registered to participate in 2012. Together we have raised a record $4 million at the 2012 Women in Super’s Mother’s Day Classic.

This year’s success brings to $14.8 million the total funds raised in 15 years by you and all past participants for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and its research programs.

Both the 4km and the 8km run events have two wave starts. You must select a wave start during the registration process. The times are as follows:

7.30am 4km run starts – first wave (white race bibs)

For all the runners that are worried about the NEW WAVE system ruining your time, don’t be. Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you actually have a chance of placing, run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

9.30am – Wave Start Light Pink
10.00am – Wave Start Blue
