**UPDATE 24/03/13 – This morning the Herald Sun / CityLink Run for the Kids helped raise over $1.95 million for the Royal Children’s Hospital. CityLink has also donated another $50k, taking the total to $2 million raised.

Congratulations to everyone who came down and took part in today’s event!

The timing and results from the 2013 Run for the Kids will be available shortly. The results were captured by Timing Sports, using an electronic timing tag system that recorded participants via a signal emitting chip attached to each entrant’s shoe as they cross the start and finish lines.

If you ran in this years Run for the Kids and had a timing tag attached to your shoe on your laces the results and times should be available soon.

We will be updating our Facebook Page as soon as we are made aware of timing results being released, so if you would like to stay up-to-date with the release of all this years race results all you need to do is like our page below and we will let you know as soon as it happens.

It’s time for everyone to sign up for the main fun run event in Melbourne for 2013. That event of course is The 2013 Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids.

As you are participating in the challenge of Run for the Kids 2013 and enjoying the best of Melbourne, spare a thought for the hundreds of patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital, who aren’t able to run, walk or skip their way around the unique course.

Each will benefit from your involvement in the event, as money raised will fund projects, research and technological innovations to ensure that every child receives the very best treatment now and into the future.

By doing a little bit more, you can help so much.

Race Event Details & Entry Fees

ENTRY UPDATE: Time to celebrate – the Run for the Kids 2013 has officially SOLD OUT! Thank you to each and every one of the 35,000 people who have signed up in 2013 to make it the biggest run yet.

We can’t wait for Sunday, 24 March and hope that together we can keep raising as much money as possible for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
 

This enormous event of 35,000 entries could not be staged without the dedication and hard work of volunteers. Behind the scenes the event relies on more than 800 volunteers to man drink stations, street corners and the finish line to assist and cheer the runners on their way.

The Run for the Kids is on Sunday 24th March 2013 and there are two distances to choose from. The long course is 15km and starts at 8.50am, and the short course which is 5.5km starts at 8.10am.

The long course (15km) event is $52 per person, with $31 donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal.
The short course (5.5km) event is $47 per person, with $29 donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal.

How do I enter?

You can enter via two methods either online via the registration page, or by obtaining an entry form from the Herald Sun, completing and returning it to the Race Office for processing.

Run for the Kids Volunteers!


This enormous event of 35,000 entries could not be staged without the dedication and hard work of volunteers. Behind the scenes the event relies on more than 800 volunteers to man drink stations, street corners and the finish line to assist and cheer the runners on their way.

Volunteering is a terrific way of being involved and helping to raise vital funds for the 2013 Good Friday Appeal.

Lunch is provided, and all volunteers receive a free tshirt.

Volunteers for the 2013 Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids must be 16 years of age on 24 March 2013 and will be required to attend one of two Information and Training Sessions in February-March 2013. Further details regarding training sessions will be provided.

Course Marshal – On Course
Course Marshals are assigned to designated areas along the run course to help ensure that the course is safe for participants to compete on. The course is divided into 6 Sectors. Each Sector will have a Sector Leader and these Sector Leaders will be issued a radio and will brief and deploy individual marshals to the course.

Drink Station Assistant – On Course
Volunteers are deployed to drinks stations on the course to ensure that runners are provided with drinks while participating in the event. Volunteers set up drink stations before the runners arrive by laying out cups and filling with water. They then provide drinks to runners, and remove empty/used cups.

Start / Finish Drink Station Assistant – Race Village
Volunteers provide drinks to runners at the start line. After the long course starts, they pack up the start line drinks station and move to the finish line. At the finish line, volunteers provide drinks to runners, and remove empty/used cups.

Start Line / Finish Line Marshal – Race Village
Volunteers help direct entrants to the correct marshalling zone areas at the Start line. Each zone is clearly indicated with feather flags & signs corresponding to coloured race numbers. When the runners cross the finish line they will be exhausted and excited. They will most likely want to stop, rest and chat. This can create a very congested finish area. It is your job to congratulate and thank them but to then kindly ask them to keep moving as they need to pass through the back-up timing system to ensure their time is captured.

Timing Chip Removal Marshals – Race Village
Volunteers assist competitors to remove their timing chips after they cross the line and collect them in the supplied tubs. Clippers will be provided.

Information Assistant – Race Village
A specific Information Tent will be set up in the Village as a central point for general questions and enquires. Some volunteers are required to staff the tent, some will be positioned on stands to help direct people and others will wander through the Village and help answer people’s questions.

Baggage Services Assistant – Race Village
A fenced baggage storage area will be set up in the village with entries at one end and exits at the other. Volunteers assist with managing the flow of participants through this area.

Volunteer Services Assistant – Race Village
Volunteers will be responsible for checking in all volunteers for the event and providing them with meal vouchers and tshirts.

15.5km Event


15km long course
Start Time – 8.50am
Start Location – Alexandra Avenue

A brief course description:The 2013 Herald Sun/CityLink Run for the Kids long course incorporates all of the unique features that have made it a landmark event and gives participants access to normally off-limit roads. The race village and start/finish area are in Kings Domain, making it easy for family and friends who are not competing to be part of the fun and close to the action.

The race starts at Kings Domain in Alexandra Avenue, right next to the Alexandra Gardens, heads over Swan Street Bridge, into Batman Avenue and through the Domain Tunnel.

Coming off Bolte Bridge, runners travel back into the city via Docklands along Waterfront Promenade, New Quay Promenade and Harbour Esplanade where Channel 7 staff will be waiting at a drink station with entertainment and special give-aways.

The course will rejoin Spencer Street as per last year, cross Queensbridge and proceed down the waterfront at Southbank. Runners will pass Hamer Hall, and continue under Princes Bridge, along Boathouse Drive, turn through the Alexandra Gardens into a short uphill section along Petticoat Lane to enter St Kilda Road and onto the same finish as previous years.

5.5km Event


5.5km short course
Start Time – 8.10am
Start Location – Boathouse Drive

A brief course description:A shorter 5.5km scenic course is also available to allow those participants who do not feel comfortable about running or jogging 15km but wish to be involved in the event and play a significant part in raising money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

The short course starts in Alexandra Avenue, does a circuit of the Yarra River via Batman Ave and Federation Square, and then down St Kilda Road, along Birdwood Avenue and u-turns back to the finish in Linlithgow Avenue.

This is the biggest fun run event in Melbourne each year and helps raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
In 2013, we hope to raise more than ever for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Every little bit helps provide the Hospital with funds for new equipment or facilities.

Each donation is recorded on your fundraising page along with messages of encouragement from your supporters, and all the administration is taken care of by Everyday Hero, so you’ll still have plenty of time to train for race day.

GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL

The Good Friday Appeal is the public face of fundraising for Victoria’s Royal Children’s Hospital. It has provided more than $245 million to the hospital since the Appeal began in 1931. 90 cents in every dollar raised is used by The Royal Children’s Hospital to purchase medical equipment and to fund research. The Mother’s Day Classic is one of Australia’s largest charity events and raises money for breast cancer research. More than 120,000 people took part in 2011 and raised $3 million. The 2012 Mother’s Day Classic takes place on Sunday 13 May, 2012.

The Mother’s Day Classic is an opportunity to do something active and fun on Mother’s day, while remembering those who have been affected by or who are living with breast cancer and raising money for breast cancer research.

The Melbourne event continues to break records and exceed all our expectations with 44,000 registered to participate in 2012. Even the rain and cold couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm and community spirit of the participants and over 600 volunteers who came along to celebrate the 15th anniversary and pay tribute to those who have been affected by breast cancer in some way.

Together we have raised a record $4 million at the 2012 Women in Super’s Mother’s Day Classic.

This year’s success brings to $14.8 million the total funds raised in 15 years by you and all past participants for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and its research programs.

Fun Run Event Details

This year’s event will take place on Sunday 13 May in all capital cities and more than 25 regional locations across Australia. The Melbourne Mother’s Day Classic event involves a 4km and 8km walk and run around Alexandra Gardens and the Tan Track.

Mothers Day Classic 2012
Date: Sunday, 13 May 2012
Where: Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne (Melways ref: 2F J7)
Start Time: From 7.00am to 12noon

Registration closing dates:

Early bird entries close: 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 April 2012.
Online entries close: 12 noon Wednesday 9 May 2012.
Mailed entries close: 5.00pm on Friday 4 May 2012.
Late entries: Will be available at Alexandra Gardens at the following times:
Saturday 12 May 2012 from 10am – 3.00pm
Sunday 13 May 2012 (event day) from 6.15am (arrive early to avoid the queues)

Due to the large number of participants expected at this years events and to ensure your safety, all events will be sent off in waves for 2012.

Runners:

Both the 4km and the 8km run events have two wave starts. You must select a wave start during the registration process. The times are as follows:

7.30am 4km run starts – first wave (white race bibs)
7.45am 4km run starts – second wave (orange race bibs)

8.15am 8km run starts – first wave (yellow race bibs)
8.20am 8km run starts – second wave (dark pink race bibs)

Each running wave has a capacity of 4,000 participants. Once the wave is full, participants will have to select another wave.
**Participants must start in the wave selected.

For all the runners that are worried about the NEW WAVE system ruining your time, don’t be. Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you actually have a chance of placing, run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

Walkers

During the registration process, walkers will be able to select one of the following waves to start in:

9.30am – Wave Start Light Pink
10.00am – Wave Start Blue
10.30am – Wave Start Green

Each wave has a capacity of 10,000 participants. Once the wave is full, participants will have to select another wave.
**Participants must start in the wave selected.

7.02am – Warm-up aerobics commences for 4km runners
7.30am – 4km run starts – first wave
7.45am – 4km run starts – second wave

8.40am – Memorial minute of silence – walkers

National Breast Cancer Foundation

All proceeds from the Mother’s Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1998 the Mother’s Day Classic has raised $10.8 million dollars.

From modest beginnings in 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic has grown into one of Australia’s largest national charity events and has become an integral part of Mother’s Day for thousands of Australians.

If not, do so now – register today! Once you have registered, you will receive an email with a link to your own personal fundraising page. It’s that easy, so please register now as your first step to fundraise.

VOLUNTEERS / SPECTATORS / SUPPORTERS – Do you wish to fundraise without registering to walk or run?
If so, it is possible to register to fundraise. Please note, this option is only available to those not walking or running as fundraising pages are automatically generated when you register to participate in an event.

The 2012 Melbourne Course & Map

The course follows the roads around the Royal Botanic Gardens, with the finish line on St Kilda Road. The start line is on Alexandra Avenue, near the Pillars of Wisdom. Both the run and walk events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit.

The 4km and 8km runs are run separately to the 4km and 8km walks.
